Missouri Corn Growers Statement On Trump Trade Package

(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.)–Missouri Corn Growers Association President Kyle Kirby, a farmer from Barton County, released the following statement regarding President Donald Trump’s trade impact mitigation announcement.

“With some corn farmers in Missouri facing severe drought and all farmers facing low commodity prices, the Missouri Corn Growers Association hopes President Trump’s trade package helps those facing dire financial conditions survive until next year.

“As these discussions continue, it is important to keep in mind the risk farmers take every time they plant a crop, the investment paid up front in the hopes of a bountiful harvest, and the number of government actions that can send some into financial distress.

“Our industry has been working for decades to maintain and build long-term markets for our corn and corn co-products. That is our goal plain and simple. Missouri farmers need President Trump to come to an agreement on NAFTA, find a resolution to the trade wars, reallocate the unprecedented Renewable Fuel Standard waivers doled out to highly profitable oil refineries and follow through on his promise to grant RVP relief on higher blends of corn-based biofuels. These are all actions within the scope of the administration that can provide much-needed stability in the countryside.”
