EMERSON GARNERS ENDORSEMENT OF MISSOURI CORN GROWERS ASSOCIATION (JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.) -- Today the Missouri Corn Growers Association (MCGA) congratulated Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson (MO-08) on receiving the organization's endorsement for the 2006 general election. "Throughout Jo Ann Emerson's career, she has worked diligently to stay informed regarding what farmers in her district want. She works like a bulldog to see that our concerns are heard and our needs are met," says Mike Geske, MCGA board member and corn farmer from Matthews, Mo. "Among farm groups, she is known nationally for her work in agriculture. Farmers in southern Missouri couldn't possibly have a better friend in Washington D.C. than Jo Ann Emerson." In order to receive this endorsement, Congresswoman Emerson had to meet the strict criteria established by MCGA's board of directors, a governing body comprised of 13 corn farmers from across the state. In addition to a strong pro-farmer voting record, only candidates for U.S. Congress who have served a minimum of 12 years in elected state and federal public service are eligible for this support. Congresswoman Emerson recently expressed her appreciation regarding MCGA's support. "I am grateful and honored to receive the Missouri Corn Growers Association's endorsement. They are tireless advocates for Missouri's corn producers." "Whether I'm fighting in Washington D.C. for a good farm bill or fighting overseas to open up new markets for our crops, the Missouri Corn Growers Association has been, and will continue to be, an outstanding partner," she continues. "This endorsement will no doubt have a positive impact on my campaign. The Missouri Corn Growers Association has an outstanding record of helping rural Missouri. I look forward to working with them on future endeavors." In the U.S. House of Representatives, Congresswoman Emerson represents the 28 counties of southern Missouri's agriculturally diverse Eighth District. She also sits on the Appropriations Committee and three of its subcommittees: Agriculture, Homeland Security, and Energy & Water.
