MISSOURI CORN GROWERS SUPPORT KENNY HULSHOF
Statewide Agriculture Association Announces Endorsement of Congressman

(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.) -- Today the Missouri Corn Growers Association (MCGA), an advocacy group representing the state's corn growers, announced their endorsement of Congressman Kenny Hulshof (MO-09) for the 2006 general election.

"These days it's rare to find a congressman that can talk about cleaning out grain bins over the weekend and mean it," says Brent Rockhold, MCGA board member and corn farmer from Arbela, Mo. "As a farmer himself, Congressman Hulshof knows the direct and indirect consequences that national legislation can have on our bottom line here at home. He has proven himself time and time again to be an ally and true friend to corn growers. We are pleased to lend our support to his bid for re-election."

In order to receive MCGA's endorsement, Hulshof had to meet the strict criteria established by organization's board of directors, a governing body comprised of 13 corn farmers from across the state. In addition to a strong pro-farmer voting record, only candidates for U.S. Congress who have served a minimum of 12 years in elected state and federal public service are eligible to receive this endorsement.

Now serving his fifth term in the U.S. House of Representatives, Hulshof represents the 25 counties of northeastern and central Missouri's Ninth Congressional District. During his time in the legislature, he authored the Farm and Ranch Risk Management (FARRM) Act, which establishes tax-deferred accounts to help farmers manage risks. Hulshof also is an avid supporter of ethanol and steadfast champion on river transportation issues which are vital to Missouri corn farmers.

"As a corn farmer and a legislator, I have a unique understanding of how federal legislation and regulation impact both the national economy and the small farmer," Hulshof said. "Agriculture is the economic backbone of Missouri, due in large part to the very productive corn farmers of our state. I am proud of the progress we have made to enhance the market for ethanol and other value-added products. I am very honored to receive this endorsement."
