LOCAL GROWER COMPLETES NATIONAL LEADERSHIP PROGRAM

(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.)--Missouri Corn Growers Association (MCGA) board member Kerry Rose, a farmer from Liberal, Mo., recently completed a national leadership program in Washington, D.C. On Jan. 27, Rose joined 18 growers from across the country to participate in the National Corn Growers Association Leadership Academy sponsored by Syngenta Crop Protection. The training program focuses on enhancing communication skills with legislators, building coalitions and devising effective grassroots legislative strategies.

"We are grateful for the time and dedication Kerry puts into cultivating this state's corn industry," said Gary Marshall, MCGA chief executive officer. "Our board and staff work hard to maintain our status as a leader within the agricultural sector and the halls of the capitols. Through programs like this, our growers obtain the skills needed to best represent corn farmers."

The certification marks the completion of a two-part, six-day training series. The first phase kicked off last August in Greensboro, N.C. The introductory session focused on strengthening the leadership skills of corn growers who aspire to serve in state or national association positions. The second and final phase included training on media interaction, effective presentations and leadership communication styles.

Rose will use the skills learned in his role as a board member for the association, representing southwest Missouri. To learn more about MCGA, visit www.mocorn.org or call 1-800-827-4181.
