MISSOURI CORN GROWER WINS A NEW RIDE
|
(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.)--Terry Hilgedick, board member with the Missouri Corn Growers Association (MCGA) and farmer from Hartsburg, Mo., was presented the keys to a 2008 Flex Fuel Chevrolet Silverado truck today at the Commodity Classic in Nashville, Tenn. Hilgedick was one of four lucky winners whose names were drawn in a membership recruitment contest sponsored by the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) and Syngenta Crop Protection.
"I am very grateful to NCGA and Syngenta for their generosity," said Hilgedick, who had to recruit a minimum of 30 new or renewed members to be qualified for the drawing. "My recruitment efforts were relatively effortless. Farmers understand the value of a strong grassroots partnership and have built our success on the shoulders of 32,000 members. The hard work of this organization - establishing the renewable fuels industry, building export markets and tackling other important farm issues - are evidence of how far each membership can take an industry."
The key exchange took place at the 2008 Commodity Classic. This event is considered the premier tradeshow and convention of U.S. corn, soybean and wheat producers, with this year's total attendance topping 4,300 people. Hilgedick was awarded the one-year lease to his new Flex Fuel truck, which has the capabilities to run on both regular unleaded gasoline and E85 fuel (a blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline).
"I look forward to filling up with E85 over the next year, knowing the vast majority of the money I spend will return to Main Street rather than stream out of our country to oil rich nations," Hilgedick said. "With this Flex Fuel vehicle, not only will the majority of my gas money be reinvested here in the state of Missouri, but thanks to the value of E85 I will be saving money in the process."
